Job Description

Project Engineer - Electrical/Instrumentation is responsible for providing instrumentation and electrical engineering services in a manufacturing environment.  This includes the development and execution of capital projects to deliver on Business sustaining, Regulatory, Safety, Quality, Profit Adding or Strategic objectives. The Project Engineer works closely with Operations, Maintenance and Cost Accounting personnel to define the scope of work and to evaluate the financial impact of projects.  Upon project approval, the Project Engineer is responsible for the execution of these projects within budgetary, time and regulatory constraints.

Project Engineer - Electrical/Instrumentation is also responsible for increasing the productive capabilities, efficiency, safety, and reliability in the delegated area of operations.  To achieve this end, the incumbent must recognize and translate into practical application the opportunities to modify, improve upon, or add to production machinery, processes, and services.  In these investigations, practicability in terms of return on investment is a significant consideration.


  • To determine, through application of technical knowledge and experience, short- and long-term improvements to the electrical, instrumentation/control and computer infrastructure of the Division
  • To prepare feasibility studies
  • To execute projects through application of appropriate technical resources which, over the short- and long-range support an effective mill power distribution system conforming to all pertinent governing regulations
  • To review alternate project proposals to determine the most effective solution to the problem under study, consistent with acceptable cost
  • To coordinate, supervise and work in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams including unionized trade personnel and contractors
  • To coordinate design work with vendors and contract engineering firms
  • To prepare bid packages for machinery, materials and services
  • To prepare cost estimates, requests for appropriation
  • To coordinate start-up and commissioning, factory acceptance tests, troubleshooting and to ensure planned operating results from completed projects.


What you will bring:

  • S. or B.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, eligibility for British Columbia
  • Work experience in a manufacturing environment will be ideal
  • Awareness of industrial safety and environmental issues
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of project management techniques
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams
