Converting Reliability Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

The Reliability Engineer - is primarily responsible for managing the preventative and predictive maintenance program to maximize the availability and reliability of the mill’s assets in producing products in the most cost-effective manner. The Reliability Engineer also works closely with operations and maintenance to identify issues and opportunities and to respond quickly to problems. The incumbent also works closely with Engineering, Operators, and Maintenance Technicians for troubleshooting, RCFA, maintenance, and project work.

REPORTING

The Reliability Engineer – reports to the Maintenance Reliability Engineering Manager.

Accountabilities

  • The Reliability Engineer must identify opportunities and provide cost-effective solutions to reliability as it relates to paper machine and converting equipment. The incumbent must develop appropriate maintenance/reliability procedures for assets based on failure consequences and conduct failure analysis to determine root cause.

  • Responsible for the development and management of preventative/predictive maintenance program and associated work orders, including both mechanical and electrical components

  • The incumbent is responsible for the management of the lubrication program (including oil sample analysis) and develop the vibration monitoring and/or other programs for the paper machine and converting assets, including the auditing of their effectiveness.

  • Accountable for the inspection and testing frequencies to monitor equipment and implement preventive/predictive maintenance techniques.

  • Carry out job responsibilities in a safe manner. Review and ensure equipment/processes meet relevant safety codes, policies and guidelines.

  • Maintain a close liaison with operating and maintenance supervision and a continuous awareness of production problems as they relate to maintenance.

  • Improvement of machine reliability and uptime.

  • Provide support for the upgrading of Maintenance Technicians skills in the area of preventative/predictive techniques.

  • Work collaboratively with other leaders within other areas to achieve targets.

  • Support equipment installation and start-up activities, provide engineering leadership to resolve problems, troubleshoot, and optimize the installation process to meet project objectives and schedules.

  • Identify and remove bottle-necks within the process as related to manufacturing and maintenance.

  • Develop technology approaches that support improved plant efficiency, process improvement, and manufacturing flexibility.

  • Review equipment and process to identify required spare parts, coordinate ordering with maintenance/stores to minimize downtime, and manage spare parts inventories.

  • Perform root cause failure analysis of equipment and machines to implement reliability improvement action items.

  • Every employee must implement Kruger environmental policy in their daily tasks. In particular, employees are responsible to abide by legal and corporate environmental requirements, and must adhere to all environmental procedures. Every employee is responsible to report all environmental incidents and any potential environmental hazards.

Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

  • Minimum 3-5 years work experience in technical and industrial manufacturing/reliability engineering assignments; or 1-2 years work experience in conjunction with formal Reliability Training/Education

  • Working knowledge of preventative maintenance and reliability improvement programs, including root cause failure analysis.

  • Experience in troubleshooting mechanical drive systems, general machine design, engineering calculations, packaging equipment and manufacturing support equipment

  • Excellent communication skills including both verbal and written.

  • Ability to effectively lead work teams as well as work as a team member

  • Organizational and prioritization skills

  • Ability to read and understand machine drawings and/or schematic diagrams.

  • Computer literacy/competency including MS Word and MS Excel

  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive in problem solving and to lead the resolution of problems
