Project Superintendent

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Project Superintendent is responsible for coordinating capital investments and major maintenance of buildings and grounds of the plant as well as related systems.

What you can expect…

  • Manage the execution of various capital and special maintenance projects involving buildings, foreshore and marine structures, HVAC systems, roofing, loading docks, fencing, fire protection systems, underground utilities, and Steam plant.
  • Plan and supervise semi-annual Nexterra maintenance shutdowns, order materials, book and coordinate contractors and internal trades.
  • In collaboration with the Engineering Manager and the Maintenance team, identify deficiencies that may compromise the safety of personnel and equipment and prioritize corrective actions. Ensure coordination of relevant inspections and formulate recommendations to management.
  • Participate with the engineering and maintenance managers in the development of the annual capital and special maintenance budget for the realization of various improvement projects for the following year.
  • Analyze, research, and propose actions and corrective measures to address challenges during capital and special maintenance projects. Determine the impacts each project may have on the environment and safety and determine corrective measures. All appropriate measures must be taken to maintain a healthy and safe environment.
  • Develop capital and special maintenance projects from conception to execution. Study the problem, develop solutions, analyse feasibility, estimate cost, lead time. Submit justification in the form of a “Request for Appropriation” (RA) to justify the project and follow the project through to completion.
  • Coordinate the work of consultants to develop plans and technical specifications for projects. Identify suppliers of products and services related to the project, respecting the organization's purchasing procedures, and send technical specifications to selected bidders.
  • Receive and compare bids, make recommendations, prepare contractual documents, and manage all aspects of procurement.
  • Actively manage progress and cost of project, submitting monthly status reports to the engineering manager for all projects whether approved or in development.
  • Supervise the fabrication, modification, and/or construction of new works while ensuring that contractors and employees comply with the plant's various standards (safety, environment, etc.).
  • Issue “Notices of Project” to local safety jurisdiction as required.
  • Verify the proper functioning of new equipment and new works. Ensure employee training regarding the operation and use of new equipment.
  • Apply Kruger's environmental policy in daily tasks. Comply with legal and corporate environmental requirements and follow related procedures. Report all environmental incidents and potential environmental risks.
  • Coordinate FM Global site inspections, developing agendas, organising tours, and preparing a response to inspection reports. Incorporate highest priority FM recommendations into capital and maintenance budget planning.
  • Work in collaboration with CSSC committee members to address identified safety deficiencies.

  • Minimum post-Secondary Education Technical Diploma or certification, Trade Journeyman or other supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 12-15 years of experience in an industrial environment.
  • Proven experience managing safety regulations, project scheduling, quality and cost control.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite and SAP or other CMMS software.
  • Working knowledge of construction drawings, documents, and specifications.

The starting range for this role is $93,000 to $125,000 or higher, depending on your experience.
