Job Requirements of Cost Accountant:
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor degree in Business/Commerce, Finance or Accounting.
- A minimum of 2 years relevant cost accounting and business experience.
- Some exposure to a manufacturing environment is preferred
- Accounting designation preferred (CPA, CMA).
- Some exposure to auditing is preferred, and a strong knowledge of internal controls.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be very proficient in using Excel and large financial systems including knowledge of SAP.

Cost Accountant
POSITION SUMMARY
The Cost Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate cost information for all operating department (including pulping, paper machines, converting, maintenance, parent rolls ales and shipping departments) and for supplying management teams with cost information that will improve decision making.
REPORTING
The Cost Accountant reports to the Cost Accounting Supervisor.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Maintain accurate cost information for all operating departments (including pulping, paper machines, converting, maintenance, parent roll sales and shipping).
- Reconcile and control mill transfers and mill inventory accounts. This involves setting up monthly costing runs and reviewing/reconciling as necessary. Monthly production volumes are reconciled and actual production costs are reconciled with production standards for the month. Monthly production costs are also reconciled with the manufacturing budget.
- Reconcile book inventory values to physical counts. This includes ensuring that physical inventories are taken as required, that book inventory is reconciled to physical, and that all transactions affecting inventory accounts are properly recorded.
- Balance and control assigned general ledger accounts.
- Ensure month-end closing is completed accurately and timely, including preparation of any necessary monthly closing reports. This includes all mill operating accounts as well as the analysis of material usage accounts.
- Responsibility for the preparation of the monthly manufacturing cost report, month end inventory balances, analysis of key manufacturing costs, and other closing reports as required.
- Provide assistance to department heads in the preparation of their annual budgets. Organize and prepare budget information for all operating departments. Prepare budget product costs, actual product costs, and production projects as required.
- Provide direction and support to other members of the department. Provide assistance to the Cost Accounting Supervisor on special projects as required.
