Job Requirements of Controller:
WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Controller is responsible for the operation of an effective, timely, and accurate accounting/finance system for the facility. This includes responsibility for directing the day-to-day costs, capital, general accounting, payroll and accounts payable. The Controller is also responsible for the annual budgeting process, monthly/annual closing of the books and the preparation of the monthly/annual manufacturing cost reports and P&L variance analysis.
In this role, you can expect to:
- Be responsible for the preparation and presentation of the annual manufacturing budget, the monthly actual versus standard cost report which summarizes production cost variances to brand cost standards, and the monthly Manufacturing Cost Report which defines the current and year-to-date mill performance compared to budget in terms of materials usage, materials price, expense, production rate and production mix variances.
- Lead, develop, and work with your team, as well as colleagues across teams
- Ownership of the monthly preparation of the income statement and the associated variance analysis
- Operate as a Financial advisor to the General Manager and the facilities management team
- Ensure that the finance department handles financial disbursements and payrolls in accordance with recognized procedures and compliance with legal requirements
- Provide leadership with statistical and financial data
- Direct the day-to-day production, cost, capital, and general accounting; along with payroll, and accounts payable operations.
- Run the monthly closing of the books and the preparation of the monthly manufacturing cost reports
- Ensure compliance with all governmental reporting requirements
- Overview the preparation of monthly and budget brand costs ensuring that manufacturing costs are allocated properly to brands
- Review and participate in capital projects
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business/Commerce
- Accounting certification preferred (CPA, CMA)
- 8-10 years of relevant accounting and business experience, with at least 3 years in a Senior Finance, Cost Accounting Supervisor, or Controller level position.
- Direct experience in a manufacturing environment is required, along with a solid understanding of plant operations and product costing.
- High level of proficiency with computers including such things as: Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point), SAP, accounting/payroll/inventory systems.
- Some experience with auditing is required and a strong knowledge of internal controls.
- Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
- Proven complex analytical skills as well as ability to develop sound recommendations and solutions
- Demonstrated accountability and responsibility for independent judgment and successful outcomes
- Consistent track record for executing performance objectives an delivering results
- Key Competencies including: candor/integrity, influencing & building partnerships, team work, accountability, problem solving, and customer focus
